Marc Ecko And Timex Teaming Up For A Line Of Star Wars Themed Watches

By Andrew Liszewski

Marc Ecko’s no stranger when it comes to Star Wars, and Star Wars themed apparel, as is evident by his line of hoodies inspired by that galaxy far, far away. But it looks like he’s recently teamed up with Timex as well to produce a series of Star Wars themed watches that so far only look slightly dorky.

This post on The Marc Ecko Blog actually dates back to July, but it shows off a couple of watch designs including a Stormtrooper model and a Boba Fett one, which each feature a mixture of metals, rubber and nylons as well as sounds and light-up ‘Indiglo’ features. Pricing and availability info is still scarce, though the blog post does mention “Holiday 2009″ so if there’s a Star Wars fan on your Christmas list you might want to keep an eye out for them.

ZAZ Up Your Time a Bit

I’m gonna go ahead and start out here by guessing your life could use a bit more ZAZ. Everybody could use a bit more ZAZ in their life, if you think about it. And that’s why Nooka has decided to name their new master-stroke the ZAZ. It’s a watch for 2010, with wacky / amazing features such as this: a completely transparent mineral crystal lens face. What’s that mean? It means you can see right through it. ALSO it means it appears to be displaying time directly on your wrist!

You’re no longer on time, time is on you.

If you’ve seen Nooka watches before you’ll recognize some features and aesthetics the same as before. The four vertical bars, for example. Additional items include a green LED light function, time, date, and a lovely butterfly clasp.

Feature: Chronograph and alarm
Size: 45 x 35 x 8 mm / 22mm wide band
Water resistant to 5ATM

Three models: Silver face with black or white leather bands, or a silver mesh band.

Oh so fashionable, oh so you.

You Have Smartphones? Here’s a Smartwatch

Sleek and minimal? Check. Large screen? Check. Oodles of tech? Check, check and check! The E’llipse Traveler is a watch to end all watches. Why? Because it has a fancy processor and the latest algorithms in human-machine learning. Yes it learns you! It knows what you want and keeps you up to date. That’s not all. ZigBee and Bluetooth modules enable indoor localization, an impossible feat for GPS. The UI is based on widgets – one for every kind; time, weather, calendar and a custom API lets developers get creative.

Nooka Zaz With See-Through LCD Display

Nooka Zaz (Image courtesy Watchismo)
By Andrew Liszewski

Nooka seems to be heavily promoting the fact that their new Zaz watch allows your own skin tone to show through thanks to a transparent LCD display. But hopefully they’ll realize that the nifty design is more then enough to sell the timepiece, since I don’t think anyone, anywhere at anytime has lamented the fact they couldn’t see their skin through the watch they were wearing.

The time is displayed via your typical pseudo-confusing grid of blocks and a series of dashes, though it doesn’t actually appear to be that hard to decipher, and you’ll have your choice of a black or white leather or silver mesh band to complement the silver face. $380, available for pre-order now from Watchismo.

LED Pocket Watch Will Have You Considering Monocles and Handlebar Mustaches [DIY]

Using his one of his Grandfather’s broken old pocket watches as a starting point, one modder [Paul Pounds] skilled in the ways of microelectronics replaced the face with a system of 133 hand soldered LEDs.

Starting from scratch, he designed a PCB complete with 133 (hand soldered) LEDs, room for a temperature controlled oscillator for real time clock capabilities, a LiPo battery, and a cell phone vibrator to provide a simulated “second hand tick” feeling. The whole watch is powered by a PIC 16F946.

You would think that improving on such a beautiful design would be difficult, but a second version is already in the works that will feature a “more compact, lower power TCXO, automatic NTP syncing, and a USB port for charging and reprogramming”. Check out Paul’s website for more information on how to build one yourself. [Project Page via Hack a Day via Geeky Gadgets]
