Samsung Reveals Series 2, 4, 6, and 9 Laptops
The 13.3-inch Core i5 Series 9 laptop will be available tomorrow for $1,649, providing some competition for the MacBook Air in the ultra portable market. A 128GB SSD and 4GB of RAM come standard, and a scaled down 11-inch model will be available in April. If you’re on a tighter budget, the Series 2 could be up your alley, with 12.5 and 14-inch screen models and a Sandy Bridge Core i3 CPU. The Series 4 and Series 6 notebooks feature additional security features (such as a fingerprint sensor) aimed at business and IT managers and options of Core i3, i5, or i7 processors.

iPhone 5 Cases Pop Up Online, Adding Heft to Larger Display Rumors
iPhone 5 cases have started showing up on online marketplace Alibaba, which previously listed accurate iPad 2 cases prior to its reveal. The cases show the iPhone 5 following the same form factor as the iPhone 4 (as the engineer drawings seen last week also showed), but with edge-to-edge glass and a larger screen.

“Tweener” Tablet Hinted At By Nokia Executive
Nokia EVP Tero Ojanperä believes in a smaller form factor for tablets, an in-between smartphone/tablet size, that will be “a big driver in mobile games.” The company recently received a patent for a 10-inch tablet design, but may be rethinking their strategy after getting a generally negative response from European carriers.

Galaxy Tab hitting AT&T on November 21st for a $649 premium?

It’s not official but that image above sure as hell looks like an official AT&T training document. AT&T already announced that it would carry the Samsung Galaxy Tab but has been coy with details about launch date, pricing, and custom apps. Now, if the screengrab above can be believed, we know that it’ll hit AT&T shops on November 21st for a “HQ recommended” price of $649.99 without contract and featuring the same data plans (250MB for $14.99 per month or 2GB for $25 per month) AT&T offers alongside its $629 16GB WiFi + 3G iPad offering. Right, that’s 20 bucks and change more for half the display and $50 more than the base price of Verizon’s Galaxy Tab offering. Of course, AT&T will preinstall the Nook eReader and the AT&T Account Manager app for on-device activation and monthly credit refills. Not sure that’s worth the premium though. Hold tight to see how this plays out as we should see an official pricing and launch date announcement any day now.

Apple to announce iAd / AdKit ‘mobile advertising system’ on April 7th?

Since Apple’s acquisition of Quattro Wireless in January, both parties have been keeping mum on plans for Madison Avenue domination, but now MediaPost claims to know a thing or two about the newlyweds. According to the report, Apple will apparently unveil “a new personalized, mobile advertising system” which will go by the underwhelming name of “iAd” on April 7th. The article speculates that the service could be heavily focused on location-aware advertising, though that angle could hit some snags as apparently coffee-partner / arch nemesis Eric Schmidt and a little company called Google hold patents on said functionality. Of course, something that drives a wedge between these two players wouldn’t exactly be a surprise at this point — and we’d be happy if Apple doesn’t cash in on those ad-supported OS ideas it’s recently had.

Really, we’re not surprised to hear this may be coming, as a tipster just pinged us with info that an “AdKit” reference has shown up in a special file on Apple’s public “Phobos” server. This file, which is called StoreBag, provides a public XML interface into iTunes. That interface describes how applications and web browsers can “call home” to either retrieve iTunes information pages or to request that iTunes jump to a given product listing.

What you see here is a key-value pair from that file. The URL string that follows after the “adkit-product-url” key suggests that Apple is about to introduce a way to link ads with product URLs. How will this URL work exactly? It’s hard to say without any further details, which are regrettably sparse on the ground, but it suggests that ad sourced product links can be used in a similar way to affiliate-driven links.

Not much else is known about Apple’s first venture into the ad business at this stage, but Steve Jobs has allegedly told some executives that this will be “revolutionary” and “our next big thing.” Frankly, we’re starting to get a little concerned with just how often the folks in Cupertino are bandying around the word “revolutionary” — but we’ll hold our judgments until after this announcement happens (if it happens at all).

Netflix Streaming Coming to Wii Next, Naturally [Rumor]

Netflix is finally, officially about to hit the PS3, leaving the Wii as the odd console out. Well, besides past hints and the whole “duh” aspect, StreamingMedia swears that the Wii is next, and has seen pitchas to prove it.

Of course, those pictures can’t shared in order to protect they’re source, and what’s more, they’re hearing that “Nintendo originally planned to bring the Netflix service to the Wii before the end of this year” but they’re “also considering holding off on the Netflix service until they release their next generation Wii HD unit in early 2010.” So, uh, just keeping your breath on that one. Mmhmm. We see precisely where this is going. First came Microsoft’s Xbox 360, then came the PlayStation 3. Now, the beast that is Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” is coming to Nintendo’s Wii… or that’s the scuttlebutt, anyway. According to StreamingMedia, an undisclosed source close to the project has confirmed that the Big N is currently testing Netflix streaming on the Wii, and that it’ll be rolled out to the public “very soon.” Our initial reaction is to think that “very soon” will translate into “before the holidays,” though we all know that only time will tell. But hey, when you’ve been waiting for this to happen since March, patience comes naturally.
