Dealzmodo: 6-Foot HDMI Cable For One Cent [Dealzmodo]

No joke, Amazon is currently “giving away” 6-foot HDMI cables for one cent. I actually bought a few of these cables for about $2 a while back, and they work just fine. Better load up fast. [Amazon Thanks Jeremy!]

Microsoft Store opening Thursday with Ashley Tisdale

Looks like our tipsters were spot-on. The Scottsdale Arizona Microsoft Store is indeed opening on October 22nd as we heard, the first of many we expect to grace local strip malls across the country. “Be entertained,” “Be excited,” and “Be early” (doors open at 10AM), exclaim the ads in the Arizona Republic newspaper, to collect gift bags and concert tickets being given away to the first 1,000 visitors. And wow, Ashley Tisdale… we guess Tony Danza was busy that day.

[Thanks, Sebastian O.]

Microsoft store opening October 22nd, insides revealed?

Imagine for a second that you’re Microsoft: unimaginably rich, a bit bloated after years on the Office hog, and worried about a few big projects you’ve been meaning to finish if only you could find the time. Now, what day would you choose to launch your brick-and-mortar stores back into retail if you were David Porter, vice president of retail stores and former Wal-Mart exec? If it was us, we’d choose October 22nd, the official Windows 7 launch. That’s exactly what a number of tipsters are telling us courtesy of an in-person briefing by Kevin Turner, Microsoft’s COO. Specifically, the Scottsdale store will swing the doors wide on the 22nd, we’re not sure about the Mission Viejo location. According the Wall Street Journal, the stores will sell Windows-based laptops and cellphones and allow consumers to play Xbox 360 games on a 94-inch in-store screen. It’ll even have a Genius Bar “counter” where people can bring their Microsoft gear for help. In fact, the WSJ claims that the Scottsdale store interior is a “nearly exact replica” of the store created on Redmond’s campus — something we covered back in January (pics in the gallery below). Who knows, this could be the beginning of www.peopleofmicrosftstore.com as Internet trends go.

Amazon makes brick and mortar stores more irrelevant with same day shipping

prime Wow. Amazon.com is now offering same day shipping – same day shipping — in seven major cities across the U.S. with more on the way in the near future. If you live in New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Las Vegas, or Seattle then you’re already in one of the same day delivery zones.

According to the press release, “Thousands of items are now available for Local Express Delivery. Amazon Prime members pay just $5.99 per item for the service.” Amazon Prime costs $79 per year and extends free two-day shipping or overnight shipping for $4 per item to subscribers. I have it and it’s totally worth it if you order a lot of stuff from Amazon.

Non-Prime members will pay quite a bit more for same day shipping, with items carrying a shipping fee based on the type of item ordered and, in some cases, the weight of the item. Certain items, like CDs and DVDs for instance, cost $10.99 per same-day shipment plus $2.99 per item. So order three CDs and it’ll cost you whatever the CDs are priced at plus $10.99 + $2.99 + $2.99 + $2.99. Not cheap but, hey, the heart wants what it wants.

Each of the seven eligible cities has a cutoff time by which products need to be ordered. In Seattle, where Amazon is headquartered, the cutoff time is 1:00 PM. In New York City and Philadelphia, it’s 10:00 AM; in Boston, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore it’s 10:30 AM; and in Las Vegas it’s 11:00 AM. Future cities include Chicago, Indianapolis, and Phoenix.

Amazon Now Delivers Stuff the Same Day You Order It [Amazon]

Awesome: That’s my one-word reaction to Amazon’s new “local express” delivery option, which will get a Sqweel (or anything else) to your door the same day you order it.

You’ve gotta order between 10am and 1pm, and it’s not cheap: You’re talking like a $15 delivery fee, unless you’re an Amazon Prime member, and it’s only an extra $6. (Then again, if you’re stuck inside with swine flu, $15 is a pretty small price to pay to stay wrapped up in blankets in bed while somebody else fetches your shopping list.)

The new service is being tested in 7 cities: New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, Baltimore, Las Vegas and Seattle are the first, with Indianapolis and Phoenix coming later. Everybody else, well obviously you don’t live anywhere cool enough to deserve it. [Bits]
