PURE’s Elan II does DAB time-shifting on the go
Okay, yes, we know that domestic radio is a bit passe these days, but DAB is still kicking strong, and everybody likes portable tuners that can pause and rewind. Such is PURE’s Elan II, which isn’t quite as lovingly styled as the EVOKE-1S or as feature-packed as the Sensia, but it provides a cheeky ’80s look and offers the company’s ReVu technology, allowing 15 minutes of pausing, rewinding, and fast-forwarding of live radio. It’ll do FM too, naturally has a line-in for your choice of PMP, and will rock out plug-free for an impressive 35 hours when you fit an optional battery pack, which looks to cost about £25. The radio itself is £99.99, and since we get no DAB love here in the States we won’t bother converting those numbers into their dollar equivalents.

Windows Phone commercial is confusing for a variety of reasons
Okay, so we understand Microsoft is trying hard to rebrand Windows Mobile as Windows Phone with the launch of WinMo 6.5, but this commercial — labeled with AT&T logos in the US but also running unlabeled worldwide — doesn’t seem to do a good job of pointing out that Windows Phone is a platform and not a device. In fact, if we didn’t know better, we’d think that the HTC Pure is, in fact, the “Windows Phone” — even though the dude in the spot is holding a totally different generic device. See how that could be weird for people? It’s almost confusing enough to distract from the jubilant anthropomorphic app icons in tights. Video after the break.

Windows Mobile 6.5: a family portrait

Can you name them all? Don’t worry, it’s a lot to keep track of. Clockwise we have the HTC Tilt 2 (AT&T), Toshiba TG01 (not announced for US), HTC Imagio (Verizon), HTC Pure (AT&T), Samsung Intrepid (Sprint) and LG GM750 (not announced for US). It’s a pretty diverse roundup, with two QWERTY phones in the mix and an incredible variety of home screens and themes, though all six do house touchscreens — resistive, of course. Check out a super quick meet and greet after the break.

HTC Pure and Tilt 2 bring Windows Mobile 6.5 to AT&T
Long-rumored versions of HTC’s ubiquitous Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 have finally been made official for AT&T — but perhaps more notably, they mark AT&T’s very first forays into the WinMo 6.5 arena as Microsoft officially unleashes the latest version of its mobile platform on the world this week. The Pure (pictured left) is a particularly heavy rework of the Diamond2’s industrial design, shedding the square metal-adorned shell for a glossy black plastic one while carrying over the 3.2-inch WVGA display and 5 megapixel autofocus camera. Meanwhile, the Tilt 2 resurrects the Tilt name — dormant since AT&T’s version of the TyTN II made way for the Fuze last year — bringing a 3.6-inch WVGA display, full QWERTY keyboard with tilt-up display (hence the name), full duplex speakerphone, and a 3.2 megapixel cam. The Pure will be the first on shelves, available already (ahead of Microsoft’s official release on Tuesday, interestingly) for $149.99 on contract after a $50 rebate; the Tilt2 comes “in the following weeks” for $299.99 after $50 rebate.

HTC Tilt 2 and HTC Pure WinMo 6.5 Phones Arrive on AT&T [Cellphones]
Windows Mobile 6.5 rolls-out tomorrow, so expect to hear about a bunch of new handsets this week. Getting in early, AT&T has gotten official with its versions of HTC’s TouchPro 2 (Tilt 2; shown left) and Touch Diamond2 (Pure).
Both phones use an enhanced TouchFLO 3D interface on top of WinMo 6.5, and here’s how each breaks down:
The Tilt 2 is a QWERTY slider with “tilting” 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen, dual speakers/microphones (with noise cancellation), and 3.2-megapixel camera. AT&T says it will be available in the coming weeks for $300 (after $50 rebate, with 2 year contract).
The Pure updates the Diamond2’s look, and has a 3.2-inch WVGA touch screen, 5-megapixel autofocus camera, expandable memory, accelerometer, and ambient light sensor. It’s available now for $150 (after $50 rebate, with 2 year contract).
Four New Opera-Powered Browser Phones
Meanwhile, four new browser phones are also hitting AT&T, and they’re the first to come pre-loaded with its new mobile browser. You’ll be able to access the greater Internet (using data compression from Opera Software), and bookmarks can be created on the phone itself, or received from a laptop/desktop via att.net. The browser also has quick access to location-aware info (weather, restaurants, traffic, etc) and headline, sports and entertainment news.
Samsung Mythic: A 3.3-inch touchscreen-only handset with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface and access to AT&T Mobile TV, AT&T Navigator, AT&T Social Net, and att.net. Available in black come November for $200 (after $50 rebate; with 2 year contract). Pictured far-left.
Samsung Flight: A Vertical QWERTY slider with touchscreen geared for one-handed instant messaging. Available in red or silver in November: $100 (after $50 rebate; with 2 year contract). Pictured center.
Pantech Reveal: Arrives on October 18, and has a candy-bar style slide-down QWERTY keypad underneath a dedicated number pad. The Reveal is also 3G and GPS-equipped (with AT&T Navigator). No pricing/availability yet. Pictured far-right.
Pantech Impact: OLED touchscreen with haptic controls (you’ll feel a soft, tactile buzz). Flipping the phone sideways reveals a QWERTY keyboard and second display. Will have tri-band 3G and be available in pink or blue. Again, stay tuned for pricing/availability. (Not pictured).
