WebOS 1.4.1.1 now available for Verizon subscribers
Hardly the most exciting Palm news you’re gonna hear this week, but the company that still owns itself for the time being has just updated its WebOS software on Verizon to the extremely granular version 1.4.1.1. The helpful changelog informs us there are no new apps, but pinch-zoom now works correctly in Doc and PDF views, a lag in the camera shutter sound has been rectified, and forwarding videos uploaded to YouTube on to your friends via email has also been made to work as it should. The most important fix of all, though, is to a keyboard input issue whereby a single key press would generate a letter twice — both Pre Central and one of our readers report that this problem appears to have been consigned to the past. Good stuff, now let’s see it go global, shall we?
[Thanks, subzero and Sam F.]

Behold, the Unkillable Palm Pre [Cellphones]
Decapitation is the classic zombie assassination method. It kills them dead, usually. Zak snapped his Palm Pre in half, and it still lives. Lesson being, unless you completely sever the head from the body, it’ll keep on cutting. Thanks Zak!

LaLa iPhone App And Its 10-Cent Songs Might Be Reality By Year End [IPhone]
We heard of LaLa’s iPhone app a year ago, but now, along with their connection to Google’s music service, we’re hearing that the app is going through the approval process with hopes of availability by year end.
Songs are a mere ten pennies through Lala because they would be streamed to your phone, but there’s more to the app than streaming. It would allow for your own music collection to be uploaded to and accessed through the cloud for free. No more fretting over music storage.
There’s good news for the non-iPhone users too. LaLa intends on coming out with an app for Android, Palm Pre, and Blackberry phones as well. [Wired]

Caption contest: Palm strikes a pose in Spain

There are three things in this crazy world that scare the living daylights out of us: poor battery life, scratched screens, and seven-foot tall she-bots wielding Pres like concealed weapons. This, it seems, was the nightmarish scenario facing Madrid as it launched Palm’s first webOS-based phone this week.
Chris: “I’m being treated well, but please, it’s imperative that you buy this phone as expediently as possible.”
Richard Lai: “My other toy is the Pre.”
Ross: “It says if we don’t do exactly as it commands, the Spiders from Mars will return and destroy us all.”
Darren: “Geordi La Forge and I are like this.”
Josh T.: “So far they have treated me well, but I fear that could change at any moment. If you comply with their demand for 300 pairs of leather pants, they say I will be released unharmed.”
Thomas: “Sir, I assure you, this is exactly how they do it in America.”

Verizon confirms: Palm Pre hitting Big Red “early next year”
Oftentimes a picture shouts a thousand words. Other times it belts out precisely a dozen. Straight from Verizon Wireless’ official Twitter account comes this, a confirmation that the Palm Pre we knew was coming to Big Red, well, is coming to Big Red. If you can hold off through the tempting holiday rush, you’ll find Palm’s first-ever webOS device on VZW “early next year.” Huzzah!
