My Next Coffee Machine
I am totally smitten by this simple exploration of basic shapes like rectangle, cylinder and hole. The resulting coffee machine is a stunning design that is bare-minimal and intuitive. The only thing different is the operations; the brew is made by pressing the cylinder inside. Hope Nespresso likes the concept too!

Alessi’s Grooved Chopping Board Could Oust The Wheel As Greatest Invention Of All Time

By Andrew Liszewski
Now seriously, why has it taken mankind so long to make such a simple improvement to the wooden cutting board? Chop was created by French designer Patrick Jouin for Alessi’s Fall & Winter 2010 collection, and simply adds a concave groove around the rim that allows you to slide a plate below the cutting surface and easily scrape chopped food onto it. Unfortunately it’s $100, but fortunately it looks like it’s less complicated to make than a grade school wood shop project. Now where’s my router?

A Shift In Refrigeration
The concept behind the Shift Refrigerator is to save energy by minimizing the outflow of cool air. What it wants us to do is use a smaller compartment in the big fridge, on a regular basis. It will be trough this special door that you put your most used food items. The funda being, that when the refrigerator door is opened, cool air flows out and warm air flows in according to how wide the door was opened, resulting in increased use of electric power.
The newer designs in refrigeration do consider this, but all said and done, it’s an issue that cannot be resolved as long as we have kids using fridges. I mean, don’t they just love to open the fridge and take in the cool air while digging into some jelly? So the size of the door or a special compartment will not really matter. But this idea is neat.

Elaborate Kitchens Really Need to Be Smart Dressed
Must it always have to be about kitchens with lack of space? Can’t we for once focus on showing off smart products on counter-tops or wall mounted goodies! I vote for a change in perspective and say that stuff like the SmartSpace Dry Food Dispenser be on the forefront. It’s good to hold pastas, breakfast cereals, pulses etc, plus you can let your creativity get the better of you and fill it up in a very decorative way with color-coordinated dry snacks and beans.
The wall mounted version or the counter top dispenser ooze with style and detailing. For instance the dispensing knob looks cute and works like a tap, and the measuring cup at the bottom measures out contents (one ounce of food) with accuracy.

Foldable Kitchen Scale Maximizes Counter Space

By Andrew Liszewski
Kitchen gadgets can be as fun as any piece of high-techery you have around the house, but what’s the point of a counter full of gizmos when there’s no room left to actually cook? Well at least this Foldable Kitchen Scale won’t be in the way. It can handle loads up to 6.6 lbs providing measurements in 1g units, but folds up to a footprint no larger than a spice shaker. It’s powered by 2 x AAA batteries which are good for about 6 months of average use, and besides providing weight measurements it’s also got a 60 second timer, though that might be a mistake in the copy since I’m not sure what you could really cook in just 60 seconds. (Flash fry a buffalo with 20 seconds to spare?) ~$55 from Pro-Idee.
