Kenwood AS-iP70 converges picture frame, alarm clock, FM radio and iPhone dock into one

We know, you’ve seen enough iDevice docks to make your eyes bleed with frustration, but if your bedside table is growing a bit cluttered with all the appendages and chargers you have lying around, you might wanna check this one out. Kenwood’s 7-inch AS-iP70 can serve as a picture viewer, a music player, an alarm clock, or an FM radio, while also packing USB and SD card inputs for alternative media sources. All in all, it looks quite slick and has plenty of buttons to play around with, but be warned that its 800 x 480 resolution is intended for pictures only, there’s no video playback to be had. If that and the ¥25,000 sticker (about $270, launching in Japan this April) have you running scared, you might want to check out Sony’s cheaper, AVI-playing alternative right over here. More pictures of Kenwood’s new hotness can be found at the source.

One quarter of “broadband households” have digital photo frames, we find one for the rest of you

One quarter of

Yeah, we know; next to pico projectors it’s hard to find any bit of technology more boring than digital photo frames. These days they don’t catch our eye unless they can print pictures of your pre-school beauty queen or integrate some unexpected combination of networking hardware. Still, they’re selling like hotcakes, set to be in 25 percent of “broadband households” by the end of the year. Adoption in dial-up households has not been revealed but we’re guessing it’s… slower. For those folks we recommend the first ever analog digital frame that may not print anything or hit Flickr or even automatically cycle through those pictures in that hidden directory you forgot about, but it is at least made entirely of wood, which makes it better for the environment than CFL LCDs. And, at just $25 from ThinkGeek, it’s a perfect holiday gift — for yourself.

Do Not Shake Vase

We’ve had our share of vase concepts here on Yanko Design, and this is definitely one of them. It’s strikingly similar to a previous “framed vase” design we published some months ago, but it’s unique in it’s shape and execution. The line holding the frame is a wire, the wire bone’s connected to the light bone, and the light shines on the plant. Super cute.

The frame of course uses the famous Polaroid photo ratio to replicate the famous instant-photo look. If you look around the internet you’ll find this look replicated in quite a few places in website design, especially when people are displaying mass amounts of photos or image-links.

This frame was made in light of the loveliness of containing a moment in just a moment, then displaying it simply from then forevermore. Fun, yes?

Tarzan’s Making His Reservations At This Frame Hotel [Architecture]

Finding a room service guy who doesn’t even blink if you’re running around in a loin cloth (or less) shouldn’t be tough in this Dubai hotel. The place already almost looks like a jungle on the inside.

With the walls constructed of dark, solar protected glass, the abundant plant life of this Villamoda Galleries design is clearly visible at the right angles and the neatly kept vertical gardens appear as if they’re part of the hotel’s very structure and are a stunning blend of nature and architecture. I just wish there were some vines to swing around from. [WAN]

Sony’s S-Frame DPP-F700 digiframe / printer hybrid hitting America in January for $200

Need a digital photo frame? Need a printer? Need them to happen within the same enclosure? If you’re one of the oddballs who curiously answered yes — and you don’t actually need it until after the holiday shopping season — Sony’s got you covered. The DPP-F700 digital picture frame with one-touch printing that we saw pop up internationally just last month has finally been blessed with a US ship date and price, and if you’ve paid any attention whatsoever to the headline, you’re probably well aware of what those two data points are. The frame itself will boast a 7-inch display (800 x 480 resolution), 1GB of memory, a multicard reader and will print out “professional quality” 4- x 6-inch photos at 300 x 300 dpi. There’s also a nifty “screen capture” mode that prints out exactly what’s displayed during a slide show, though there’s literally no telling how pricey those refills will be.
