Google funds project to teach computers regret

Over the years we’ve seen robots and computers being taught to do many weird and wonderful things, particularly actions that mimic human behaviour.
Just look at the robot that gains sympathy from passers by in order to get charitable donations, or the one which canunderstand your frustrations.
Now Google is funding a new project that aims to teach computers how to regret bad decisions so they don’t make them again.
Toshiba Self-Encrypting Drives come with Wipe Technology
Toshiba is proud to be the first off the blocks when it comes to rolling out the original Self-Encrypting Drive worldwide, complete with Wipe Technology. The name itself is pretty self-explanatory, as Wipe Technology lets you determine a range of security settings, ranging from invalidation of encryption keys and data invalidation when a drive is removed from its housing to being connected to an unauthorized host system. There are five models in total for the 2.5″ MK6461GSYG family, where you can choose from 160GB and it goes all the way to 640GB – where they will see action in copiers, printers, POS systems, PCs and other IT devices. Expect mass production to begin from the end of June onwards, with sampling starting from the end of this month.
To put it plainly, Wipe Technology will invalidate all data before system disposal or re-purporsing, while invalidation of data can also occur when it is powered down. Last but not least, there is an invalidation of data whenever the equipment is connected to an unauthorized system – this is dangerous in the hands of a newbie, but then again this is set to remain within an enterprise environment so you won’t see kids meddling with your stuff and removing your data – by accident. NVIDIA Ships one Billion GPUs to date
Nostalgia: it took NVIDIA 10 years to ship 200M GPUs (1993-2003)
There are a few dates that matter in the life of a company: when it was created, when it got its first customer, when it hit a Billion (ok, 1M is nice too) dollars in revenues and… when it passed a Billion products shipped. NVIDIA has announced that the company has shipped more than one Billion graphics processors (GPUs) to date (it’s not clear if chipsets with integrated graphics are counted in). For reference, it took NVIDIA 10 years to ship 200M GPUs, from 1993 to 2003. It is clear that with the company’s entrance in the mobile market, it will take much less time to reach the 2 Billion mark. You can check our Tegra 2 overview if you missed what NVIDIA is doing in the mobile space.
