Technology has been used to help golfers improve their game for quite awhile now. We’ve covered some apps before, and a high tech glove, and now the folks at PING have a new way to improve your putting. Called the iPING Putter App, this app measures your stroke type, impact angle, and tempo which you can use to compare with your friends and some pre-entered golfing pros.

The app aims to help users improve the consistencies of their putts, which in turn will make users’ putting strokes more reliable when playing on the golf course. The iPING Putter App will be available for free on the Apple App Store on June 20th, but the cradle for you to attach it to your putter is available separately. Video demonstration of the app after the break:

It’s easier than ever to produce professional looking photographs. Some mobile phones can produce stunning results but ask any professional photographer and they’d say people are diving into the prosumer market without understanding key fundamentals like framing and composition. The SLOW concept turns your mobile phone into a camera that gives you control over three built-in lenses; fixed, macro and fisheye. Frame your composition and push the shutter.

This is how it works:

To operate, slide the front face open and insert your mobile phone.

Turn the lens to select which lens effect you want.

The Slow Photography camera has three lenses; fixed focal length, macro and fisheye. Carefully compose your shot by looking through the viewfinder and push the shutter release to capture your shot.

A recently spotted flyer/poster proudly lists “Global Ready in more than 200 countries” as one of its selling points. Verizon now has one more phone to add to its lineup of world phones such as the Droid 2 Global and upcoming HTC Merge. No mention of a release date or price yet, but it shouldn’t be too far away now. Any takers for this Android world phone?

Remember the Windows Phone 7 updater by Team ChevronWP7 that allowed you to update your WP7 phone regardless of what model it may be and the warning Microsoft issued about it possibly putting your phones into an unserviceable state? There were disputes over the whole issue, with some folks saying that they’ve received notifications to official updates even after updating their phone unofficially. Well it looks like it does’nt matter anymore. Regardless of whether it negatively affects your WP7 device or not, the ChevronWP7 updater has been pulled off the internet because Microsoft told the developer that the tool was “breaking phones.” So there might be a possibility that users who updated their phones with the unofficial updater could be stuck on NoDo forever. The developer is working on how to rectify the solution, but until then it looks like a system restore of the phone to its original state should do the trick, which not many users are willing to do for now. I guess we’ll have to wait for the next WP7 Update to arrive first. Read the blog post about the updater being removed.

Strange to see a concept device not living up to its namesake – we’re talking about the LG Triptych, which denotes the number 3, although it has just two faces. Still, this is one convergence device that would attract the attention of many since it lets you carry both a phone and a tablet in a single form factor – especially when you can open it up to have both displays synchronize to end up as a tablet, albeit with a potentially distracting bezel in the middle. Who are we to say that such a crazy idea won’t happen in the future, but from the form factor itself, we’re guessing they’ve also figured out potential battery woes involved in something so small and yet having so many power guzzling parts.

The inevitable has happened – smartphone shipments have finally overtaken that of PCs, with the former shipping 100.9 million units to stores worldwide in the final quarter of 2010, while the PC camp could muster only 92.1 million units – at least these are the statistics available to us according to a study released this week by IDC. One of the main cause for smartphones overtaking PCs would be the phenomenal growth of the smartphone market, where 2009 and 2010 saw shipments triple, while PC shipments grew at just 45%. Part of this could be due to the way contracts work, especially in the US where one buys new devices once every couple of years when their contracts are up, and with the US being the largest smartphone market, it makes perfect sense. PCs, on the other hand, lasts a whole lot longer and are more expensive. It really depends on how you want to interpret such statistics, but one thing’s for sure – smartphones are here to stay.

Google Voice is already a pretty popular service and now Google has snapped up a California-based start-up, SayNow, for an undisclosed sum. SayNow’s platform offers voice messaging between individuals or groups and the company already offers access to its services via Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Android and the iPhone. The company claims to have over 15 million users on its apps and services, such as SayNow Phone, SayNow Broadcast, Big Call and Chit Chat. It isn’t clear what Google is planning to do with the platform at the moment, but it’s expected that it will eventually be integrated into Google Voice.

There are a few dates that matter in the life of a company: when it was created, when it got its first customer, when it hit a Billion (ok, 1M is nice too) dollars in revenues and… when it passed a Billion products shipped. NVIDIA has announced that the company has shipped more than one Billion graphics processors (GPUs) to date (it’s not clear if chipsets with integrated graphics are counted in). For reference, it took NVIDIA 10 years to ship 200M GPUs, from 1993 to 2003. It is clear that with the company’s entrance in the mobile market, it will take much less time to reach the 2 Billion mark. You can check our Tegra 2 overview if you missed what NVIDIA is doing in the mobile space.

The S5570 is expected to arrive at the upcoming Mobile World Congress and has been certified by China’s FCC-like agency. From what we know, this phone will feature a 240 x 320 pixel resolution display, TouchWiz user interface, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, microSD card slot and will be powered by Android 2.2.1.
