Lumigon To Launch Its First Smartphone On Oct 20th

The folks over at Lumigon seem to be rather capable at designing some pretty looking mobile phones, and now the company has posted a notification on its Facebook page, promising users that its T1 phone will be unveiled on October 20th, with pre-orders for the device being taken from the 20th of September. If what the company claims is true, the device will offer specifications such as:

Slip Up: Nokia Devices Spotted With Android UI

This is probably just a sloppy mistake by a designer out there somewhere, but an eagle-eyed person noticed a poster showing the Nokia 5230 and X6 over at Oxford Street, sporting Google’s Android interface. It doesn’t look like Android will officially be used by Nokia anytime soon, but it does get your mind thinking what it would be like. It’s an interesting idea, though it doesn’t seem likely as Nokia seems to be banking rather heavily on its Symbian 3 powered N8 phone.

Microsoft Giving Windows Phone 7 Devices To Employees

Microsoft must be getting pretty serious about the adoption of its upcoming Windows Phone 7 (WP7) operating system, as the software giant has promised all employees a free smartphone at its Global Exchange meeting, which would see as many as 90,000 staff members getting a WP7 device when it begins to ship sometime before the holiday. It wasn’t stated which company would be supplying the phones, but you can expect that an order of 90,000 devices would make most manufacturers happy. Such a move could also be part of an action to reduce the number of competitors’ devices at the company, as many Microsoft employees do carry iPhones, BlackBerrys, or Android-powered devices.

You got to agree that the skeletal system is a genius of design; it protects the delicate organs inside while giving support to our lustrous skin. If we were to apply the same design for our mobile phones then it’s quite possible to wipe out the peripheral “phone covers and cases” industry. I’m talking about the LG Exo Smartphone Concept. The key feature in this concept is a high strength polymer exoskeleton for protecting the delicate internal components while supporting its external rubber skin.

The end result is a good-looking phone that does not require any protective case that mars its beauty. You get to enjoy the phone in its intended avatar! The reason why I relate to this concept is that my gorgeous iPhone lies hidden beneath this hideous cover, lest it falls down and cracks!

Droid X Units That Arrived Early Can Now Be Activated

Word was going around that many folks who received their Droid X phones early were unable to activate them. While the initial solution was to tell users to wait until the July 15th launch date, a recent leak has surfaced, showing users who want to manually activate the Droid X themselves just how to do it. Fujitsu Gearing Up To Release An Android-powered Phone In Japan

Reports are going around that Fujitsu is busy working on an Android-powered smartphone. Details are still quite scarce as the moment, but it seems that the phone should be arriving next year, and NTT DoCoMo will be the carrier offering it. Considering that Toshiba and Fujitsu recently merged their mobile divisions, we’re looking forward to see what kind of innovative devices the partnership will churn out. Maybe we’ll have something similar to the separable design of the F-04B.

Google Open Spot Android App Helps You Find Unoccupied Parking Spots

Here’s a rather interesting app from Google – Open Spot. This Android 2.0 (and above) app allows users to search for unclaimed parking spaces that have been reported by other Open Space users. Once the spot is marked, its color will gradually change from red to yellow in relation to the length of time it remains unclaimed. It’s a great idea, though it will need quite a number of active users in order for it to be really useful. At its current state, it doesn’t allow users to make notes for each spot to state whether the spot is metered, or is in an unpleasant state such as being surrounded by giant puddles, but hopefully a future version will bring about such improvements. Open Spot is already available in the Android Market, and you can give it a test drive.

Hacker Geohot Jailbreaks The iPhone 4

Jailbreak fans should be quite happy to hear that Geohot has recently mentioned that he’s managed to jailbreak his iPhone 4, which gives us hope for more options to jailbreak the device. That being said, the bad news is that he hasn’t put a release date on it so there’s no telling when we’ll be seeing the next jailbreak solution from Geohot. Maybe you should keep an eye on other jailbreak solutions too, like the Spirit jailbreak tool from Comex.

Super Bowl Ads 2010: Lots of Chips and Beer, Light On Gadgets [Super Bowl]

Did you blink during the Super Bowl commercial breaks? Too bad if you did, because it means you may have missed the anemic number of gadget or tech-related commercials worth talking about tomorrow at the water cooler. But! Megan Fox!

Megan Fox is an obvious choice, for obvious reasons (if she’s your thing): She had a Motoblur, and we’re a gadget blog! See? Obvious. Anyway, tweeting from a tub on her new phone, she pondered what would happen if she sent a picture of her bathing out to the world. Hijinks ensued, people were hurt, and even a gay couple somehow got distracted by the fox that is Megan Fox:

And such is the power of Fox that there were scenes that didn’t make the final cut.

Then there was Beyonce, fresh off her Grammy performance, performing again for Vizio. Surrounded by Internet memes and celebrities, Twitter and what appeared to be an army of automobile assembly line robots (hopefully not ones from Toyota), she sang and sold that company’s Via/Internet Apps technology. Think Internet on your HDTV, not because I say so or because that’s exactly what it is, but because that’s the message Vizio assaulted viewers with during the 60-second clip:

Tough love was the story for Intel’s Jeffrey the Robot. The commercial was supposedly for Intel’s Core processor line, but I know the truth: Robot uprising. It 20 years’ time we can all look back at this commercial, when poor Jeffrey was snubbed For The Last Time by his human overlords:

Lastly, there’s one we actually covered yesterday. Google. Its poignant ad about a search-happy boy in love with a French girl aired yesterday, on the Internet, which is probably fitting. We’ll revisit it again here if you missed it tonight:

Personally, for me the ads were a bit stale this year. Even the Bud Light beer ads, which have made me laugh out loud on occasion in years past, felt a little tired. Betty White was a standout though, and there were back-to-back ads depicting grown men in their underwear. Possibly a first there. Also a first: Seeing a two-timing baby talk about eTrade while his “milk-a-holic” girl on the side blew up his shit over a webcam.

The one Bud Light ad I will give props to, however, was their Autotune bit. It’s a stretch including here on Gizmodo, but we have a history with that app (iPhone, anyone?), and we’ll take an opportunity here to thank Budweiser for hopefully killing the tech off for good with this Super Bowl ad:

OK, I admit it, I smiled a bit watching that a second time. Guilty.
