Six Android browsers enter the ring, only one reigns supreme

Six Android browsers enter the ring, only one reigns supreme

Choice is a good thing, and Android users certainly have a lot of choices. Default launcher or Launcher Pro? Fancy animated live wallpaper or static picture of adorable puppies? Stock browser or alternative? It’s that last question that has plagued so many, and to offer some guidance PC World pitted six of the Market’s top choices against each other. The 2.1 and 2.2 stock browsers entered, along with Skyfire 2.0, Opera Mini, Dolphin HD, and Mozilla Fennec (the pre-beta release of what could bring Firefox to your phone). The winner? Well, you can see the ultimate speed results above, with SkyFire surprisingly trumping Opera Mini, though that one seemingly has ‘em beat when it comes to repeat-visits. However, the full story when it comes to things like page rendering and Flash compatibility is naturally a good bit more complex. For those details you’ll need to click on through.

[Thanks, Tim]

Fancy New Orchidee

Look at this amazing desk. It’s designed by a designer with a most fabulous name: Marc Fish. The desk, called Le Orchidee, is highly influenced by a desk at Musee d’ Orsay in Paris – a desk by the same name. Many cues were taken from the designer of the original desk (Marorelle,) not the least of which was using groundbreaking techniques utilizing design research and experimentation. One of the results is the fabulous seamless tambour roll top – appearing to be one solid piece of wood this top is actually veneered canvas layered upon strips of wood.

Fish informs us that the technique used to attain the effect of the desk top had never before been used on a desk. That’s hot. You’ll see in the gallery below the lovely drawers and sassy angles that make up this fantastic looking desk. Put all your golden paper clips in it.

Nascar Fans To Get World’s Largest TV

That’s right, Panasonic has teamed up with the Charlotte Motor speedway. The new TV will weigh in at 165,000 pounds, and cover an area of 16,000 square feet. Now for the bad news, the TV will only be running 720p. Although when it’s that big of a TV I doubt anyone will notice..
