Can You Figure Out All the Uses for the Piranha Multitool? [Tools]

When it comes to multitools, you can never have enough functions and the Pocket Tool X Piranha really takes that thought to heart. I can’t even figure out half the things it’s supposed to do. Can you?

I know that there’s at least a bottle opener, a nail puller, a scraper pry ends, a double-ended bit holder, a bunch of wrenches on this thing, but it somehow looks like you’re getting some sort of hidden functions for your $50. I just don’t know what they are. [PocketToolX via Wired via Engadget]

A Stoplight for the Progress Bar Generation [Image Cache]

Progress bars aren’t always accurate, but at least they’re there, giving us hope, curing our angst, and mostly, diverting our attention from the fact that whatever it is, it isn’t done. And soon, they will invade the meatspace.

We already crane our necks to see the perpendicular streets’ lights cycles through, so the Eko stoplight concept, intended to let drivers know if it’s ok to shut off your car to save gas at a light, won’t really change a whole lot. But it would set a precedent, a standard, and a model for everything else: I want progress bars on my toaster, my pizza deliveries, my teapots, my dryer. No, scratch that: I need them.

And if you think about it, our innate desire to see the bar creep forward (or around, as it were) runs deeper than our slow entanglement with computers. I mean, what is a line if not a progress bar made of people? What about a sliced loaf of bread? A growing child? And oh god, clocks. This is too much for a Monday. [Yanko via Ubergizmo]

Inside An Emirates A380

web19 (Custom)

By Evan Ackerman

When the gigantihugenormous Airbus A380 was still in the prototype and demonstration phase, there were all kinds of wild ideas about what manifestations opulence would get stuffed inside its belly. The interior of the production A380 has been toned down a bit, of course, but that hasn’t stopped Emirates Airlines from including sleeper berths, showers, lounge areas, and wet bars (I say “bars” because there are two on the plane). More pics from some lucky sod who probably spent more money on that flight than I’ve made in, uh, ever, after the jump.

And coach? Still coach:

Because you can’t really enjoy your flight in first class without a bunch of unhappy people on the lower deck.

iriver Story up for sale in the UK, can be imported to the US for contrarian amount

Other than a delightful-looking keyboard, it’s a little tough to tell what sets the iriver Story apart from its E Ink brethren (other than its complete lack of wireless), but the little issue of a $400 US pricetag for import versions doesn’t give us much reason to find out. Meanwhile, in the UK the somewhat more reasonable £230 tag has been affixed to the now-shipping e-reader, and while that’s still a tad bit more than just shipping a Kindle to the UK, if you’re still interested you can feel free to check out a few videos after the break that do a mild job of explaining the device to a rollicking soundtrack of Taylor Swift.

Hong Kong Crunch: What’s up in China?

china-hong-kong

Hey, guys. I, John Biggs, will be in Hong Kong and Guangdong next week (November 30-December 5) to visit some folks and would love to meet up with Web 2.0 and gadget purveyors in mother China. If you would like to chat, drop me a line at john @ crunchgear.com and let me know what’s up. I’m thinking about doing an informal meet-up on Thursday so advice on places to meet in Hong Kong are welcome.

Look forward to hearing from you all and “Ni Hao!”
